A note on Synthetic stones in Deco era jewellery. It was common for lab created synthetic coloured stones to be used in jewellery of the Deco era. It was considered new and exciting technology which lent itself well to the geometric and colourful fashion trends of the era. Add to this the scarcity of coloured gemstones after WW1 robbed the workforce of any men to work in any mining endevour which did not contribute to the war effort, and you understand why many of the coloured gemstones of the era were in fact synthetic.
Although we strive to only stock natural gemstones, as we want to offer original Deco pieces in a variety of price ranges, we willingly make an exception for the Deco synthetics. Original, beautiful, reasonably priced and if tested with any gem tester will test as "genuine", (as they are chemically the same as naturals, (and unfortunately are often sold as natural from those who know no better)), these lovely original pieces are fashion history.
This ring has had an independent valuation which will be included in the sale of the ring. (A$2600) This piece is in very good antique condition.
