This ring guard is made so that a solitaire engagement ring can be inserted by sliding it into the center void. There is a picture that shows this ring guard with a more elaborate filigree solitaire inserted into it. A more simple solitaire may be more to your individual taste but we didn't have one handy when photographing this piece.
